The evolution of the marine propulsion market and that of Hydro-Armor have one thing in common: innovation!
Thanks to the creativity of its teams, innovation and the search for efficiency have been the hallmarks of Hydro-Armor since the company’s inception in the late 1960s.
Initiated by Christian Quéré since 1968, when the company Hydro-Armor was founded, this innovative approach has revolutionized the operating methods of certain marine trades.
First, seaweed harvesting, then mussel and shellfish farming have benefited for decades from these major innovations brought by Hydro-Armor: cranes, amphibious vehicles and hydraulic propellers… And now river or sea transport vessels and workboats are benefiting from marine propulsion designed and manufactured at Hydro-Armor.
Three key steps for marine propulsion
This change in marine propulsion equipment can be illustrated by three emblematic models of the Hydro-Armor production:

First 950 thruster (1992)
Release of the thruster equipped with a propeller drive hydraulic engine designed and manufactured by Hydro Armor, which made it possible to substantially optimise propeller efficiency.
Celeste 005 (2014)
Release of the first type 4200 thruster. New generation of hydraulic motor allowing to absorb up to 800 hp to the diesel engine. Low propeller speed, without reducer, thanks to a hydraulic engine entirely designed by Hydro-Armor for the application.
ER Thruster (2015)
Release of the first ER thruster. Optimized propulsion base with simplified maintenance. Given the interest of customers for the technical developments brought by these new bases, DR bases will follow in 2017 and CR in 2018, for lower power drives.
All of these elements have a point in common: the innovative use of hydraulics, delivering performance, reliability and safety.
